AIIMS Darbhanga Construction Underway
Date: April 2025
The construction of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga, Bihar is officially underway, with its foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 13, 2024.
Once completed, the institute will offer:
- 100 MBBS seats
- 60 B.Sc. Nursing seats
- 15–20 super specialty departments
- 750-bed multi-specialty hospital
The facility is designed to handle around 2,000 outpatient (OPD) and 1,000 inpatient (IPD) cases every month, providing quality care to patients across North Bihar and neighboring regions.
The government has allocated approximately ₹1,264 crore for this project, and completion is targeted within the next three years.
Significance of AIIMS Darbhanga
The addition of AIIMS Darbhanga is expected to transform healthcare access in Bihar by offering high-end tertiary care and advanced medical education. It will also reduce patient load on existing AIIMS facilities in Patna and other nearby centers.
This initiative is part of the Government of India’s broader mission to expand world-class medical infrastructure across underserved states.
